Welcome to IWG- Gymnastics classes in Sydney's inner west

Every gym has a first day. Ours was the first week of January 2026. There was no grand opening. No ribbon cutting. Just a group of people who believed that the inner west deserved a gymnastics centre built around athletes, and a lot of work to do.

Inner West Gymnastics Centre (IWG) is a Women's Artistic Gymnastics (WAG) club in Strathfield South, Sydney. We offer gymnastics classes for children from age 2 through to high-performance competitive WAG. If you've been searching for gymnastics classes in Strathfield, Burwood, Homebush, or anywhere across the inner west of Sydney. Hello. This is us. We're at 8 Pilcher Street, and we'd love to meet you.

How it started

IWG was born from accumulated experience and a shared belief that gymnasts deserved better. Not just better coaching, but a better experience, one where wellbeing mattered as much as results, where every child had a genuine pathway regardless of ability, and where the culture of the club was something families actually wanted to be part of.

Mary-Lou Labruna founded IWG with that vision at the centre. She brought with her years of perspective as a gymnastics parent who had seen firsthand what the sport could be at its best, and what it looked like when clubs got it wrong.

Karl and Yvette Shore came on board as Head Coaches with a combined depth of experience that is genuinely hard to find in one place. Both accomplished athletes before becoming coaches, they've spent their careers developing gymnasts at every level and are two of the most sought-after coaches in the sport across Australia. Having them here from day one set the standard for everything IWG is building toward.

In our first six months, we've had the privilege of introducing over 100 children to gymnastics- through classes, school programs, and holiday clinics. That number is still growing.

Gymnastics classes in the inner west. Programs for every child

Kinder Gym: ages 2 to 5

Our entry point. Imaginative, movement-based gymnastics classes for 2 to 5 year olds that build coordination, body awareness, and confidence through play. Cartwheeling Cows may or may not be involved.

Foundations: non-competitive gymnastics for school-aged kids

If you've been searching for recreational gymnastics classes in the inner west, Foundations is what we'd point you to, but we named it deliberately.

We don't love the word recreational, because we don't believe in putting a ceiling on what a child can become. Foundations classes are for kids who want to develop real gymnastics skills in a supportive, non-competitive environment. Whether your child wants to eventually compete, build strength for another sport, or just get really good at cartwheels. Foundations is the starting point for all of it. No boxes. Just building.

Performance: competitive WAG

Our competitive WAG squad trains gymnasts from Level 1 through to Level 10, in alignment with Gymnastics Australia's national pathways. The Performance program is by invitation, but we're always watching to see who's ready for the leap. If you think that might be your child, come and talk to us.

Holiday clinics and birthday parties

Because gymnastics should be fun outside of term time too. We run school holiday clinics and kids' birthday parties at IWG throughout the year. This is a great way to try gymnastics for the first time or keep the skills ticking over between terms.

What we stand for

We built IWG around three words: Breathe. Build. Belong.

We want every gymnast who walks through our doors to feel calm enough to try, challenged enough to grow, and connected enough to stay. That goes for the two-year-old in their first Kinder Gym class and the Level 6 athlete preparing for State competition.

Gymnastics isn't just about what happens on the floor. The lessons it teaches; resilience, discipline, courage, how to get back up after a fall, are the ones that stick around long after the gymnastics does. We take that seriously.

This is our first post, but it's not our last. We'll be sharing competition updates, program news, and what's happening around the gym as we go. We're glad you're here for the beginning.

Curious about gymnastics classes for your child in the inner west?

We'd love to hear from you.
